The way you communicated in this thread, no, it was not "obvious" that your problem isn't that people think differently from you.

Like you assumed I was a man, I then assumed you were a man. Funny how that works?
Not 100% sure about the point you are trying to make.
That's a non-answer. If you want to discuss these things intelligently, you can't just throw away lines like "only a certain kind of people finds anti-racism worrisome (Hint: it's racists"), making a very strong and baseless inference, and then responding how it's "weird" how people can think your comment was without…
It's a comparison, Sir. An analogy, if you will. People have preferences when it comes to external attributes - this can be clothing, body size, skin color, hair color, or based on status such as your profession, are you rich or poor etc. These are all external attributes, superficial if you will.
Yeah. And that's the thing, somebody can ask you and I think it's cool to say you don't know enough to form an opinion. And if it's something you truly don't care about and it's not an essential thing in life that people "should" probably have an opinion on (e.g. should we go to war or something), you don't even have…
Good! I think that's a healthy attitude. If you don't know about something and don't care about something, your impression about it will probably be way off from what it is in reality.
I'm sure you mean that as sarcasm, right? Nobody can be that obtuse that they think everyone who thinks about this issue differently is a racist? My god.
"It seems". Don't always believe what you read. Modern Family is a standard sitcom that is no more or less outdated than 95% of the other shows.
When for the love of the Spaghetti Monster did it become a thing that it's not ok to say anymore that you have "a type" and that certain features, be it physical attributes or something related to professions, outfits etc., are "your thing" and makes you more turned on/attracted to the person on a superficial level?…
Dear God. That wasn't the joke. The joke was that his lie kept putting him in increasingly tough situations with Claire in a classic sit-com style. The whole plot would've been completely acceptable to the PC police if instead of "black" it would've been "redheads" or "biker chicks" or whatever.
I agree with most of what you said. There are definitely people out there who are very isolated, and in many ways it is easier to become "atomized" and alienated from society in today's world (mainly due to technology, and yeah sure, capitalism too blah blah ;) . Then again, isolation, loneliness and other social ills…
It's the classic hipster trick of trying to be "intelligent" by using obscure words.
Seriously? Is AV Club trying to be a parody of an idiotic hipster web site? All of the movie reviews I've seen lately (I'm a relatively new visitor) are trying to be so "intelligent" by going against the consensus view of the movie out there.
