Your state may vary. I think Michigan has an archaic system of transferring title where the same paper title is actually physically transferred from person to person. Amen! I'm amazed at how many people trade in cars at the dealership where I work, and they don't have the title. And they never bothered to get the lien released on the loan they paid off in 2008. And they look at you like it's your problem.
