Maybe.

3RD GEAR: Why would it be a surprise that D's are defending gov't agencies and blaming big business?

Looks like an attempt by the BBB to make themselves look relevant, and not simply in the pocket of business. Way to all of a sudden be right on top of this practice that's been going on under your noses for 50 years! The the problem is the BBB has no authority. If they "ban" it, all that means is that dealers that use

No lender lets dealers mark up money factor that much. Your sister has credit issues and would not have qualified for the 1.9 either.

This. I can't believe Tom didn't include asking what price they're selling it to you for. So many people don't even realize that there still is a purchase price on lease, and that price is negotiable just like always.

Ya that thing still won't start the car, and there are frankly much easier ways to just break into one. This tool would have the benefit of being relatively discreet however.

Anecdotally, this is not what I'm seeing at all (I'm a finance manager at a large new car store). It's easier now to get a car loan than it's been in many years, and the lenders get looser and looser every day. They are being smarter about it, however. They verify income upfront, they make sure you can afford what

YES. Every time I hear somebody got a Chevelle, I think "Oh, so you want to be like everyone else. That's nice for you."

YES. It's a fun little car, I get it. But CMMMMOOOON ALREADY ENOUGH

Totally just to get you back in the service department for inspections which lead to sales. I ran a small new car store that struggled with service retention, and we actually considered buying prepaid maintenance for all our customers just to keep them coming back. But still, a net benefit to the customer...so I have

Wrong. Gas prices are determined by speculators and George Bush. Not things like supply, demand, taxes, and cost of production/shipping.

I had a white one with the paint flaking off. Every morning before I left for work I would diligently respray the grey spots white. It was a three speed auto, and something was wrong with the tranny so only 1-2 worked. I had a 45 min commute to work on country roads and that poor thing would really heat up doing 80 in

OMG I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT

"As someone who works with dealerships on a daily basis, this story reinforces my belief that there are many good salespeople out there who got into the business because they love cars and want to share that love with others."

In other news, a vending machine ate my dollar yesterday. I shrugged and walked away.

Fair enough

Yes I know this hamburger costs $900, but really that's only .00000000000012% of the GDP, so......very low percentage-wise.

You can do that at any dealership if you pay the asking price and don't haggle. The question is...are Carmax's prices actually lower than competitors?

This was not the article I expected. ??? I think the perception in the public is that Carmax is somehow more trustworthy than an average dealership, possibly because of their written offer on buying cars and fixed pricing. You went out of your way to prove that they are not worse. You must be getting a different vibe
