As someone who got sober with those exact programs, after failing in 12 steps, I call un-bullshit. Well said, and very true for many people.

I think it’s ok to say a relapse is a fuck up. What a relapse shouldn’t be is an indictment of the person who fucked up. They’re not bad people, they just haven’t figured out how to beat their addiction yet.

I am an alcoholic in recovery. Your opinion makes sense to someone who is not an alcoholic, but someone who is an addict will tell you confidently that the addiction trumps everything; including a desire to play football. It’s why you hear stories of people who used to be good parents who leave their kids in danger…
