This is so often overlooked or discounted when novices are thinking about towing. I see it all the time with travel trailers. The marketing focuses so heavily on weight but almost no effort seems to go into aerodynamics.

The drive train limits are typically the transmission cooling. Almost universally you’ll find that higher tow ratings or tow packages for CUVs will add a transmission cooler. Same is sometimes the case for SUVs and trucks, but many or most of those come with trans coolers standard. Usually the tow package is a heavier

    Nailed it!

Kinda depends on what you’re doing.

If you live where you’ll always have cell service and a tow truck near by sure. That's certainly not my lifestyle. But for many who never venture far from home and might not know how to change a tire anyway, probably works.

Payload is just a made up number. So it varies a lot. Mostly because it is made up for each market to meet whatever rules or tax structure benefits they have. I don’t think I would put much or any value on the payload capacity. For example a Tundra has less payload capacity than a Hilux. Drop a pallet of portland

I guess it’s better than a trip to the Saudi embassy.

There is likely going to be a Tacoma EV soon. Maybe 2023?

Imagine doing this in a standing room full public bus. :(

I mean, those Icelanders do love to party. So I wouldn’t count it out. All this time they’ve been covering it up.

I’m most curious about how big your sled’s fuel tank is to go from Alaska to Russia.  :)

The ice both lowers the freeboard and significant effects the stability. It can and had sunk boats. Sailboats are especially dangerous because the tall rigging can accumulate weight up high quickly. Ships designed for winter conditions are engineered with extra safety margins to account for ice accretion. It also

Haha. Ive always hated the end of that GI JOE movie where they're under the ice as it collapsed and starts sinking through the water. The whole time I was thinking WTF is going on. The ice floats. Even moreso in salt water.

If you read the original technical papers the transmission was always a 6at. They just wanted to phase it in as 5 speed vehicles then 6 speed. It just never advanced in the 4runner since 2003. My guess is the EPA test cycle does better with the V6 and 3.73 diffs. The 1gr is a very reliable and honestly pretty good V6.

Very true. If your life depends on it that’s how you want it. If your crossing Africa you’d choose a Land cruiser. Crossing Arizona? Go for the Land Rover, just stay in cell phone range and you’ll be okay.

Good point. If it's not in a Miata or a Volvo...

Haha. I feel your pain. My 6.0 I owned for a total of 10 months. And in that time it needed two injectors replaced, in separate failures. So each time you have to get it towed. The part alone is $470. So replacements ballpark 650. Plus the tow, plus the cost to go get my trailer with another truck, plus the cost to

Police don't need mraps. Completely agree. They don’t need to exist at all!

You might not want to abolish the police. You’re one of those jerks who thinks the world exists in shades of grey and we should think critically about the nuance in different situations. Sounds like fascism.

Nah. All cops are bad. They’re basically the SUV of people. They’re dangerous. They have no value social or otherwise. And the need to be banned along with SUVs and trucks and tall wagons.
