I’ve read from one pretty reliable source that the next generation 4Runner and what will be the 180 platform Prado are delayed an additional year because of the EV drive system tuning. Supposedly the were only going to offer as a hybrid, but then they decided late in the game to increase battery size and make it

I think 100 mi PHEV might actually be wasting batteries. I don't find the argument that people drive x amount of miles on an average day to have any value. People want to drive a car as far as they need it when they need it to. But if you're doing a PHEV, then it does make sense to optimize batteries for the typical

Haha. I think the sarcasm didn’t come through.

It’s a PHEV right? 100 mile range works for a PHEV.

Is your 4runner supercharged? Stock 5th gens are ~ 8 seconds 0-60. The old brz was about 6.5 ish iirc. Maybe it just feels quicker? My 5th gen on 34" tires at 5k feet elevation is probably around 10? seconds.

Bracket lifts. Cheap bracket lifts are possibly the worst mod there is for making performance worse. And they’re the darling of the brodozer crowd and the “truck world” dealers who cater to that market.

I’ve owned every generation of 4Runner or minitruck/tacoma. I currently have an FJ40 with an original 2F. It’s also slow. The HP/weight ratio probably isn’t as far off as you’d think though, given the 50 years between the two. The FJ40 had 23lb/hp 4Runner is 18lb/hp.

Tesla went for the obvious solution: AI the car knows when it should be closed. So it doesn't have to check that it's actually closed.

You haven’t driven a modern 4runner. Haha. I love my 4R. But 275hp and 5k lbs - she slow AF.

I didn’t make that image. But I think the answer is that it’s close. There are a couple ft1 concept cars that were built. And I’ve found varying specs that may be the result of different cars or just bad info. But the general idea is that supra is a 97" wheelbase and the ft-1 is about 107-110 depending on source.

Wow. My comment was hard to read. I can’t ever figure out how jalopnik text editor works or why it screws with my text so much.

Me me, nothing about the super really works. I’ve seen the FT1 in person in Japan and it’s stunning. But part of the reason I think that it works is that it’s a big full size car. The ft-1 wheelbase is 13 inches longer than the production car. I'd guess it was about 6-8" wider too. The same styling shrunk down to a

I’m big Toyota fan, if the supra looked this good, there would probably be one in my driveway. I honestly don’t care if it’s slower. This isn’t absolutely gorgeous car. If it’s 3,000 lb - even better. Even if it’s 3,500 lb and 400 horsepower, that’s okay. I’d still take it over the Supra. And under $40,000 is a big

Lol. I do have to give Tesla some credit here. I was impressed the door didn't break off. It must be held on pretty well

Watched a kid do it once at a gas station. At least in this case it just popped out and the quick release thing sealed up. The gas station person came out and took the hose and put it by the pump and said “well that’s a bummer”. I’m sure he had seen it before. He told me that he has to call the fire department, and

Yep. They just pop out of a quick release valve. Not really a big deal. But super embarrassing.

I think that’s about right. There just aren't any EVs that are utility vehicles. The F-150 EV is probably the first real utility capable EV. Biggest downside is range. Towing or hauling for long distance is going to be a tough task. Whatever the solution is, that’s the major hurdle. Either charging rates of 200kw in

For me - Normally 3-5 times a year I take road trips that are 500+ miles each way. And then a handful of shorter ones as well. The most common longer trip is to see my parents at their ranch. It’s almost exactly 400 miles from my door to theirs. Through mostly rural areas although there are a few cities with chargers

The trouble with going 60mph is that it’s unsafe when other traffic is going 90mph. In a lot of the west including my current state the posted limits are normally 80mph on the interstate outside of metro areas. So general traffic typically flows around 85mph. Going 25mph slower than everyone else might work, but there
