It’s not really an engine issue. Just a result of a car that lasts so long it outlives the rubber hoses. But it’s kind of a bugger to get to.

I actually own a crew cab long bed F-250. And it’s honestly horrible for almost everything. The only thing it’s good for is hauling or towing and only then to places where you don’t have to turn around very often. I almost never use it cuz it's such a pain in the butt. And I don't take it camping to tell my travel…
It seems like in my experience the Toyota aftermarket parts are usually as cheap as it gets other than maybe jeep parts. I think it’s just a matter of production volumes. That’s where the Nissan will really struggle. There will only be a few boutique options for parts. Instead of 10 different winch mounts, there might…
My 2007 f250 is a horrible vehicle for reliability. Interior is falling apart. Engine needs constant repairs. Has 108k miles. 15 year old American cars are still trash. At least every one I've been around is.
Id take a Toyota that hasn’t had an oil change in 100,000 mi over a new Jaguar in terms of long-term reliability. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I do know someone who bought their daughter a Honda Civic and she apparently didn’t know she needed to change the oil (thought that checking on the dip stick was…
The $5k Honda or Toyota is probably more reliable than a new Altima.
I think you’re probably right about the numbers going back to where they were, but I don’t think the value will be the same. The people I know in marketing are telling me that the Chinese manufacturers are no longer taking US dollar contracts on longer term agreements because they don't think the US dollar will have a…
Being a shill makes you a shill. It’s getting close to gas chambers bad. But I guess that wasn’t genocide either because there were still Jews outside of Europe???
My 2007 F-250 still uses vacuum lines for a ton of stuff - things that should have been electronic in the 90s. And wouldn't you guess - they constantly have leaks. And on top of the the bizarre choice to stick with 80s tech well into the 2000's - it's a diesel. So it doesn't even have engine vacuum to use. It has an…
It was out by the road between them and the Toyota dealer. Right at the edge of where their cameras record so you couldn’t see well enough to see who it was. It almost has to be an employee because unless you needed a very specific set of interior parts, why not steal them from a new car on the lot? And they didn’t…
In fairness, I can’t repair an ECU in the field. And the move toward requiring special software handshakes between components is making some repairs impossible. And the ridiculous choices by Ford and GM on my two most recent hd trucks that require cab removal for engine work... How many home mechanics can do that? How…
My newer (non diesel) cars require a lot less servicing, both in terms of events and money. So maybe the trade-off is worth it? I even find servicing easier for the most part. Replacing modules is easier most of the time than fixing them. For example - wheel bearings, unit bearings are far easier than setting up cone…
Is it hyper inflation or rapid inflation? Hard to tell at this point. What I'm pretty confident on saying it's that the transitory inflation argument it's BS. And I agree - this is not sustainable.
It’s a giant bubble. Just wait a year or two. Inflation is going to force interest rates up. Prices will deflate and the bubble will bust.
Have I’ve been in this situation. Lexus dealer left my car outside overnight at the edge of the parking lot. Why they left it outside the fence and outside the shop... It was very convenient for the person to come after hours and strip the car. And... From what you could see from the video, the thieves didn’t search…
counterpoint - if the trucks get tall enough, eventually they’ll just pass over top of pedestrians without hitting them (unless the tires strike the pedestrian, but in that case we know it’s the pedestrians fault because -I’m not sure, but we just know).
I’m just waiting until we have to use some sort of Periscope just to see over the hood. Or maybe the hood will be put all the way up to the same line as the roof - and then you'll have like a windshield sort of thing in the middle of the grill to see out from. That seems to be where we're headed.
I think a lot of the crew cab change is the result of the need to carry children around. In the 1980s it was pretty common and acceptable to have a child sit in the middle of the front seat. Or at least be in the passenger seat. Now that’s borderline child abuse - or at least that’s how it’s viewed. And extended cabs…
