It's very likely a custom rom for the demo that will not resemble what will be on the tablet when it ships. Not to mention it'll be running ICS in a few months.

My rooted Nook Color already has Amazon's app store, Appbrain Market, Android Market, whatever market there is, it's got it. You'll be able to root the new Nook Tablet just as easily and run everything that the Kindle Fire won't.
You don't need CM7 to use custom kernels. That's something you can do with Clockwork recovery.
If it's already running Android 2.3, why would you want CM7? Just root it.
Maybe you're missing the fact that the nook can use DRM-free content, whereas you can't use anything but Kindle books on the Fire?
You've gotta think of the show as being in a parallel universe to the comic. The little changes in the story so far are already beginning to snowball into big differences.

The killer feature that makes this superior to the Kindle Fire? That Micro-SD card slot. Just like the NookColor, that makes it rootable, modifiable and unbrickable. All the NookColor needed to make it the perfect product was a faster processor and a mic and a camera.
I think you can get a free 30-day trial of prime, so there's probably no harm in just getting and seeing what there is available.
