Yes I know hopefully her journey will lead her to apologize at some point as a fan it was disheartening to hear she dismissed Jessica like that

Mine too I wasn’t trying to derail the conversation but literally it popped into my head

Yep. I wasn’t necessarily surprised that Salma, a woman from an extremely wealthy Mexican Lebanese family, was dismissive of a Black woman’s viewpoint. She said a few things over the years that made me think she wasn’t exactly great on class and race, although to be fair (and depressing) she was still better than most

She interrupted and talked over Williams. This wasn’t a respectful comparison of divergent views, it was shitty and dismissive behavior. I generally like Salma Hayek, but this was a genuinely crap moment for her.

ya that really stuck with me too. i hope she learned from that encounter. I use to love Salma and what she represented to us however, she lost some good will with fans when she said she no longer remembered what it felt like to be Mexican (paraphrasing)...as if that isn’t what she IS already.

I’m going to nitpick here, I’m sorry. Salma didn’t challenge Jessica’s views, she dismissed and diminished her with obvious condescension, at a table where Jessica’s voice was more important to hear than Salma’s.

She and Shirley McLaine were very dismissive of her when she brought up intersectionality, specifically for trans women and WOC. The gist was “stop thinking of yourself as a victim.” Williams claimed they spoke over and interrupted her as well.

that’s my first thought any time salma is brought up these days. i was pretty appalled at the way she treated jessica williams.

I wonder if he actually has killed someone, or had them killed.

I am very empathetic to this story and I feel for her and yet while reading it what she did to Jessica Williams came rolling to the front of my mind. But back to the subject at hand I’m proud of her for speaking out against him and he clearly put her through hell. What a garbage man.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a ten year old who wouldn’t be mortified by a personalized banner being flown over their school....

It’s such a frustrating accusation, which all survivors of sexual assault face, that they are coming forward “for the money.” First of all, you don’t have to be a victim yourself to observe how terribly victims are treated when they go publicly. Secondly, even if they were coming forward “for the money,” so what? That

What the people who say that do not understand - in fact, probably anyone to whom it hasn’t happened doesn’t understand - is that to come forward is to relive.

The article in NYT was interesting - she talked about how she initially wanted to negotiate for an even larger sum, but just the idea of taking his money made her skin crawl, so she called off negotiations.

She refused one million dollars...

Most of these aren’t that good?

Unpopular opinion, but...good.

Do you remember when TLC, History, and the Discovery channel were full of educational programming?
