There will be very few workers to screw over.  New plants will be as heavily automated as possible.  My guess is that automakers will make automation decisions based on wages 2x to 3x the rate at the time the plant is being built. 

That is cheap enough to drive it until it drops and sell it for salvage value when inevitable $$BIG FIX is needed.

Yikes! Vonnegut did not know the cold (real cold) start procedure. You rock the little SAAB side to side vogorously. The fuel tank is behind the rear seat and is side-to-side so you can really get the fuel sloshing around if the tank is 3/4 full or less.

Fuel cost is just money, part of the cost of ownership. I do not remeber trucks loosing market value in the last gasoline price increase but luxury sedans did.
