Back to the Chicago area to visit family and friends after 10 years.
Great source for TV shows!
We’ve been using a very similar recipe for marinara sauce with the tomatoes from our garden. So far, we’ve gotten about 10 or so pounds of tomatoes, and the sauce has been wonderful! Unfortunately, I have been jumping the gun just a bit on the picking, with the tomatoes being a bit more orange than red. The redder…
Sad but true.
But then that’s my point. New customers often get incredible deals that often include drastically reduced core services. People who say they will cancel often get incredible deals that often include drastically reduced core services. Existing customers? They get offers for ADDITIONAL services, sometimes with…
I just checked their site again, (haven’t checked in a while) and they have two new tiers:
I hate it when you tell them that you want to terminate service to move to a competitor, and suddenly the deals start rolling in. It’s kinda like telling your employer that you are giving notice because you are taking another job, and they offer you a raise to keep you. WTF?
Fortunately, all ISPs aren’t draconian overlords. Western Carolina Telephone (WCTel) is a coop in South Carolina. We have fiber to the house, 60 Mbps up, 60 Mbps down, with excellent support for $39.69/mo. I honestly don’t think my Internet bill is unreasonable in any way.

I remember Active Desktop, and I saw that yesterday in a Google search. I’m just envisioning something much richer and more sophisticated than active Web content. Thanks!
Great article!
All sorts of things come into play, and there are many who, especially after the bubble burst, were underwater with their mortgages. So yes, I got lucky there. As you said, those factors are beyond my control, so the way I look at is is to focus on those things you CAN control (choices made in spending, saving,…
Active desktop?
Be frugal, be responsible, and save.
Sorry, but I call BS. The article does make some good points, but fundamentally, it’s simply promoting excuses for not being responsible. It’s not that people don’t understand “Spend less than you earn”, it’s that most CHOOSE not to heed it.
Congratulations on wanting to purchase a house! My wife and I have bought and sold several houses, and the unfortunate reality (at least for us) has been that every deal was unique. Buying a house will never be as easy going into a showroom and simply saying, “I’ll take that” and plopping down the money and picking up…
