Beautiful car but I’ll be getting my rear engine fix with one of these:

OOOOH I FOUND A TYPO! Do I get a cookie?

Bleh

“I only want you to replace the bottom of my tires. The rest is fine. And NO YOU WILL NOT RIP ME OFF WITH AN ALLIGNMENT!”
Drives off like:

Ah. I thought it was further reaching than that. Good to know. Hopefully the rest of the emissions regulations don’t have Obama’s signature on them so the current administration doesn’t try to target them. Fingers crossed!

Excluding diesel for this discussion (because I am woefully uninformed on the subject).

I thought it was about mpg goals... looks like I need to read up again. My comments were more about abandoning emission regulations / CAFE req’s entirely

My bad. I am really unfamiliar with the chemical reactions involved in the cat. I bet it wouldn’t function without the platinum. No way to know from where I sit though

It isn’t as simple as chopping catalytic converter off and sticking a piece of steel there. There is a lot of controls software involved. The cat affects the exhaust back-pressure and affects the sound deadening. The cat’s functionality is also checked routinely by the engine controller, as required for OBD-II

It just seems like a really short term option. And it would only be available for vehicles in states without emissions. And the owners of those vehicles would never be allowed to sell them to CA or would have to wait around 15 years to sell them to any state that follows similar laws.

Aftermarket rustproofing too!

I agree. No car company operates quick enough to be able to immediately start selling cars that belch black smoke because it’s legal now. If anything this would be the opportune time to sell cars with European emission systems. Simpler supply chain and you are prepared for when emission controls are mandated again.

One would hope. These things can go for at most $20K but frequently sell for around $12K if the options are right. If this is a real turbo and 4 speed car, then it’s being really undersold.

It should have the swing arm suspension but the transverse leaf that Ed China installs in that episode became standard for 1964 and later. I believe the earlier spyder models also had it as a standard option.

Turbo and 4 speed! That’s one hell of a NP! That car could pretty easily sell for triple the price if the paint was in decent shape

I goofed again! Alexandaria manages just the bidet in Italy. It’s a full time job.

I ended up getting 2 dealers to compete against each other and got about $3K off after taxes. I do like the golf and if my previous car hadn’t been totaled (and I had more time to shop around) I would have looked at more makes.

I had previously owned a 2011 Fiesta hatch (auto, sorry) and I totally agree on the rear seats. Between those seats and the horrendous transmission, my friends never had me DD in college (at least with my car). Based on your comment, did you end up with either the Golf or Fit?

What are/were you comparing it against? I wanted to look at Civic’s but there weren’t great selections in my area at that point and the Honda dealer was not great.
