Painting Rose’s win as an attempt to dampen Symone’s frontrunner status downplays her performance this episode. Her commercial was as good as Symone’s, and her look was much better IMO. It at least fit the challenge. If anything, giving Symone the joint win signals her as an obvious favorite. She did great but there

Cracker was meh but saying she was worse than Sonique and Phi Phi is...pretty debatable. She at least had some jokes. It was blah but saying it’s in the running for worst performance ever is a big ass stretch.

Despite the great cast this season feels so..off...so far. The premiere was great but it’s been downhill since then. Hoping it can right itself for the end and do the opposite of the last couple all stars which tanked hard at the end.

That maxi challenge, while a bit self serving for the brand, was pretty spectacular (also Covid ended up screwing with the Vegas show anyway). This crop of queens is the strongest in years, they truly are immensely talented. I feel like half of this cast will be on the next All Stars and I’m totally here for it lol.

The challenge was a bit messy but considering the number of people involved it was cut together relatively well and was enjoyable.

There is no way this was worse than World’s Worst, that one has a special place in the shitty episode hall of fame lol.

Jan not winning is pretty cruel. Everyone involved knew this was a challenge she was primed for, she completely turned it out, and then they snatched the win away from her for an okay but not amazing performance.

After some of the truly unbearable scripted challenges they’ve had recently, I was really pleasantly surprised by the main challenge. It was more dependant on performance than the minimal writing, but overall this might be the most adept cast at acting we’ve had in years, without a total trainwreck performance.

Jan was robbed. Her critiques were basically “you were too good at everything.” Sure Jan. 🙃

What a gorgeously rendered hour of television. This show is more than I expected, and after The Leftovers I expect quite a lot from Lindelof.

I’m sure she’ll get right on that. You do realize producing and songwriting can be quite unique processes, and both offer a lot of input on their own. Writing over a demo track is an established form of songcraft, just as is equally collaborating in both writing and producing processes. Just admit you refuse to give

Your assumption that none of these artists can actually write songs is indicative of your own stubborn perceptions of the genre and not necessarily reality. Not to mention the frankly tired tradition of snobby listeners entirely discrediting pop artists, especially female ones. But this is also out of place on a

It wouldn’t be an AVClub music comment section without people shitting on all of pop music lol. “Manufactured” is kind of an opaque assertion in music, but I hardly say it applies here. Every song was written by Del Rey and Antanoff and it’s very much true to her style and what she wants to say.

Have you seen the show before? The writing has never been legitimately great for scripted challenges - they’re supposed to be campy and dumb. A ridiculous, broad sendup of reality is what one expects from the show (and usually drag in general), not a carefully crafted, nuanced take-down. There are plenty of those

I liked Joel and the reactions Michelle was giving, it felt odd but also kind of hilarious that the editor kept underlining Michelle’s annoyance.

Nooooo Soju. That dress was rough, but she’s sweet, I was a fan before she was cast. She’s probably a bit timid for the show, especially in this lively cast. Well, down to one Asian queen. I'm happy fellow Canadian Brooke took home a win.

Ah, can always count on the deeply cynical hot takes here. There are a lot of writers, but a good portion have around 5 each, which isn’t crazy, considering even someone like Kacey Musgraves has 3 writers on each song on Golden Hour. Of course there are a couple with a bunch of writers, but that’s par for the course

Dear God they need to get new writers for their scripted acting challenges, or better yet dump them completely. I was pretty buzzed watching it but still cringed, it might’ve been worse than last all stars’ acting challenge, give or take the farting sequence.

And your snarky dismissive commentary is even more pointless.

I love how they pulled in the talking head and had Latrice rolling on the ground like she's on fire made to be a gag worthy move. Though I did enjoy Trinity's stupid as hell but funny costume. Though I'm also drunk so that may play into that.
