I've seen this and The Hobbit trilogy. This was much better.
The producers have said they wanted to do a direct adaptation of the comics but it would have cost them a shitload of money. They also wanted to explore Jesse actually being a preacher (which he didn't really do a lot of in the comics). Basing the 1st season in Annville was a financial and artistic choice.
