OMG this is so true. New Yorkers have known how full of shit he is ever since the very beginning.

Personally, I feel we need not only term limits on our elected officials, but age limits as well.
This is honestly the best dissection of Trump and his sycophants that I’ve ever read. Thank you.
Where’s the closet where they keep those Pulitzer things? This is everything I’ve been thinking chaotically about that asshat...written cogently.
Jon Stewart approached that level, but I think he was a little hamstrung by having to prep this kind of comedy nightly (Carlin worked on bits for months, if not years), meaning his bits feel of their time.
Exactly. He hasn’t done a single good thing for this country since becoming president. Not a single good goddamn thing. Even some of our worst presidents (before him) did at least one positive thing before they left.
In that vein I was pleasantly surprised at the strong amount of pushback ABC got today for just repeating Trump’s “the FL election is tainted” tweet without any attempt to adjudicate its validity.
People usually attribute this sort of thing to “cognitive dissonance” but it’s more confirmation bias. People remember anything that supports what they want to believe and ignore everything else.
Yeah, that’s why all the news organizations need to take a large portion of the blame for his presidency. If they would’ve just ignored his dumb ass, we probably wouldn’t be here. He wasn’t even a “serious” contender until every news outlet began airing all his rants.
Trump is definitely a narcissist. And narcissists view any attention, positive or negative, as validating their worldview: “people (love me/ jealously hate me) because *I’m so important*!”
I disagree, slightly. Yes, he’s a narcissist, but he absolutely knows he’s lying. It’s just that (a) he doesn’t care about truth, and (b) because of his narcissism, he’s convinced he’s so much smarter than the people hearing the lies that he can put one over on them, every time.
Damn, this is an excellent, fine piece. The second-to-last paragraph was particularly on point. I hope this gets spliced to Splinter.
This piece definitely deserves three or four (huge, beautiful, very powerful) sandwiches sourced from shops east of the Mississippi. We can open up choices west of the Mississippi next…
Loved that bit; this whole article was thoughtful and well-written and often funny. Great job, David.
Well written piece, David.
He couldn’t be bothered to go to Arlington Cemetery on Veterans Day. He hasn’t been to Iraq or Afghanistan (Obama went three times in his first two years). How so many in the military continue to support this fraud is beyond me.
> He hasn’t changed a thing since graduating from punchline to president. It’s been clear for decades that Trump was both an asshole and a dummy; this is now a problem not just for the odd unlucky cocktail waitress and his staff of cheesy apparatchiks but literally every person on earth.
This guy ran for President so that people would play Hail to the Chief and stand up when he entered a room. That’s about it.
The truly sad part of Trump’s presidency is that the media wanted him to win the Republican nomination, because he says/does stupid shit all the time, and they never thought there was in a chance in hell he’d win. Now he hates them.
Really well written, David. It’s an article that many people have tried to write, but this is one of the best efforts I’ve read.
“Like many in his generation, Trump has mistaken the end of his life for the end of the world.”
