I disagree that “Technology is just planned obsolescent by nature.” Tech is always improving, yes, but it doesn’t have to do so in a way that makes older tech obsolete. Taking a phone OS as an example, updates could be way more transparent and opt-in so the average user can a) install security updates a la carte

People who want an affordable phone and don’t need all the latest and greatest bells and whistles would happily buy a cheap five-year-old phone that still ran decently well. Technology is always going to wear out or become obsolete, but it’s still possible to build things so that they last and keep working close to
