Obviously the Manhattan Project needs to make the list. It cost nearly $2 billion in 1944 dollars, or roughly $24 billion in todays dollars, and yielded 3 bombs (though they are calculated at roughly $500 million each). Still a lot of money, especially for that time period.

The struts on my 944's (not pictured) hatch are shot. Trying to put a two-handed box in the back while keeping the hatch open is a strange workout/yoga body contortion experience.
