The Lotus Twin-Cam was made in-house, they even sold the engine to other OEMs. However they haven’t made their own motor “from scratch” for a very long time. Not entirely a bad thing - the Toyota motor is damn good.
Very useful. There’s maybe a touch less height in the back seats, which is not really a problem for the kind of people you sit there. But there’s a huge amount more room in the 400 than before (11 inches!) side to side, and there’s now a little bit of space under the seats for passenger’s feet.
