Hey now, lets not get carried away! They can only reach those extreme velocities on a few select, short sections of less-dangerously-poorly-maintained track...
This comment needs more stars.
1) This is a HUGE difference. Yes, they went with MagLev for a reason, it’s lower maintenance, it offers massive friction-loss savings -if not outright power-consumption advantages- and even more expensive infrastructure. Comparing the TGV’s speed on wheels with motors and gears and bearings and rails and viscous…
I've never ridden the TGV, how do ticket prices compare to flying?
indeed. There's no denying the Japanese train IS faster, but the fact that the TGV is so close (much as the F1 is so close...) while running on big steel wheels and rails instead of a frictionless magnetic guide-way deserves some respect.
I still respect the TGV record for a few reasons: 1) the TGV has wheels. 2) the TGV record was achieved on a regular route track (admittedly it had modified power systems to provide the test train with over 30kv on the catenary) 3) The TGV record v-max was actually achieved on a slight uphill. 4) the TGV record was…

Home Depot has most styles of CREE LEDs, including the one shown here, for $4.98ea. maybe not as cheap as your 24 for $7.88, but its a nationwide seller with actual physical stores you can visit if you want.

Did you know that Home Depot has almost all styles of CREE LED bulbs (including the one listed in today's Kinja Deals) for $4.98?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If I had the money I would probably own a 12C over the other options. I LIKE the way it looks, and it represents what I believe to be an historical moment for McLaren. I firmly believe that the market dumping of the 12Cs is going to turn into a situation similar to the…
^YES. the 158/159 is somehow forgotten because it wasn’t super flashy or technologically ultra-advanced compared to what the Germans were doing, but what it was is simply the most effective top-level race car on earth for SEVENTEEN years. 17. 1-7. Seventeen years. Thats an eternity.
I did not know RC pulling was A Thing, let alone turbine tractors!
THIS. You maybe can easily drive a “shitty by modern standards” car, but until you’ve driven an early Reliant Robin, or a first generation Crosley you can’t even begin to understand shitty cars. There may be things that drive worse than either of these, but they are bound for the junk yard and should NOT be allowed to…
The cloth seats are definitely only “Sport(y)“ seats, it’s true that they don’t have super-great side bolstering, and your description of “fine for 7/10ths” street driving is just about how I’d put it. I’ve flung my FieSTa around at 9.5/10ths and I did NOT feel like I was about to fall out of the cloth seats, but…
