Yep. The AV Club’s comments section is a very bad fit for Kinja, but oh well. :(

I continue to maintain that the best possible twist at this point would be that The Wall fulfills its intended purpose, and the White Walkers, Wights, and (new) Undead Dragon march right up to it but are then unable to destroy it or otherwise get past it.

I feel like this is directly out of the plot of one of the three or four episodes that "Nightmare Cafe" aired back in the 90s before being cancelled.

I don't know… I can sustain my death throws for a pretty long time. Put an attractive corpse in front of me, and maybe those death throws last longer.

Sure, if you happen to have the one incredibly rare liqueur or mixer that they substitute for a commonly available ingredient that generally goes into the drink they're tweaking.

The first season isn't bad, though it takes it a little bit of time to find its footing and step out of the shadow of Mad Men.

It's a massive weakness of the show that Cersei would be widely accepted as a ruler after blowing up the Sept and murdering hundreds of beloved rulers. In earlier seasons we saw mobs of commoners attacking Joffrey's litter; the idea that the same people that made up that mob, and that had thrown almost all their

Brody is one of the best film critics working today that has a national audience. His comparison of Die Hard to 80s commercials was spot on (I like the whole of Die Hard much more than Brody did, but his thoughts on it were legitimately interesting to read).

The Macedonianians were closer to Greeks than they were Persians. There's a reason that we talk about Alexander's pan-hellenism, and not his pan-achaemenidism.

"…when it was clear the Persian Army was going to surround and destroy the Greek army sent to defend the pass, 300 members of this brutal, monstrous society volunteered to hold the oncoming Persians while much of the remaining army retreated to reinforce Athens…"

And yet a huge proportion of them essentially spent a massive portion of their lives rowing crew.

Islam (and therefore Islamic invaders of any kind) didn't exist until about a thousand years after the Persian Wars.

Given that the man narrating the story is supposedly a Spartan, he's a pretty poor representative of general Spartan attitudes. Those 4 traits you describe are the antithesis of laconic behavior.
