Same! It’s kind of blowing my mind.
Same! It’s kind of blowing my mind.
Yeah, I think the video was really sweet. It’s easy for adults to get cynical about these things, but when I think about who the target audience for this song really is—there’s a kid out there in a small town for whom drag queens are still an outre thing or who has no clue what Stonewall or GLAAD are, and they’re…
Me too. I genuinely thought it was spectacular. I’m a sucker for bright colors, dresses, and Todrick. So aesthetically, it had my number from the beginning. (Also, the framed Cher quote, “Mom, I am a rich man,” basically made me cum in the first fews seconds.) But by the end of the video, I was absurdly moved. It was…

Revisionist history, Frida!!!
I love this song and video. That is all.
No... burger and fries belong together.... their reunion was destined! :)
But really it was amazing to see so many LGBTQ+ icons in one place. I especially loved the kitty shades & fur coat look. The whole video just cracked me up and brought a tear to my eye.
Whether this song is good or not (I think it is!) is surely a matter og opinion. But it’s hard to read this critique as anything other that a series of bad faith stretches. Joan used to be fun. :(
...why? What does “mature” music sound like? Does it need to be serious for its own sake, or depressing, or in a minor key?
Apples and oranges there-the reasons behind black women straightening their hair and a Carolina Herrera designer using Mexican patterns and embroidery techniques are not remotely the same.
Yeah I definitely felt like it was focused on Twitter trolls and not “critics” or whatever. This take down was... odd.
Yeah, I don’t particularly love the song, but most of the critiques I’ve read seem to be reading something into it that isn’t there. Only the first verse is about Swift at all—the subject shifts in the later ones. And there’s no indication that she’s responding to everybody who has ever made some sort of mild…
Not necessarily directed at people who critique her, but at people who live to tear others down and/or spread hate.
Of all the pop stars, Jezebel has to lean really far to get so upset with Taylor Swift. Generally uplifting, speaks to women’s issues, gay rights advocate, spoke out to her (country-oriented) base, involved herself in Tennessee politics, etc.
This song just seems like an anti-Troll vibe to me. Not necessarily directed at people who critique her, but at people who live to tear others down and/or spread hate. But maybe I’m looking at this pop song too simplistically...
I feel like this girl could actively save the entire planet from impending doom and Jez staff would still be mad at her for being t-swift.
Okay, to start with one example, Summers tries to pretend “Dark Ages” is a reference to anti-gay bigots being secretly closeted. “Dark Ages” is an extremely well-known way of referring to regressive views.
critiquing the critique is also ok
Is this a parody post?
Dear god. Why’d I even ready this?
