I would argue that most (legal) gun owners are far more responsible and have often been through more/better safety/usage training than the average beat cop. It is the combination of having an issued weapon + poor training + knowing they likely would not be held responsible, with a dash of “we’ll hire anyone” mentality

I like the idea but I’m not sure that’s viable in the US. There are more guns than people in this country.
