My lily white parents, for reasons known only to them, used to watch “Black News” (the Boston-based PBS show) on Sundays and my Mom was a huge fan of “Della!” As a small child I remember my mother being horrified that Della had walked into a sliding glass door and took her advice to put stickers on every glass surface.

I remember her show! Della was great. When she was on his show, Johnny Carson just loved her. She hosted for him.
