Great idea in theory and looks great but I bet that canal will be a bitch for erosion of that peninsula area.

But to be truly (or at least more) secure, the key to decrypt it wouldn't be stored on gmail's servers. And that means that gmail couldn't read your emails in order to serve you ads. Not sure what the point would be for them to provide the gmail service without the ad money.
