If the hdd is running faster, does this degrade the spinning disk life expectancy?

I have had my G4 for 2 weeks now and it is just fine. I use it it for work email, reading document attachments, etc. This blogger is overly critical. I agree that it is a Honda Civic in a luxury vehicle world. But its fine for everything I use it for.
