For a week in the field - you want a van. A real bed and metal shell beats a tent and ground mat any day.

The difference is the process required to refuel. With a gas car you have to go somewhere to refuel.   An electric car refuels itself at home while you sleep and you start every day at full.

GM sells 10 EVs / PHEVs in China.

My Spark EV was rated at 82 miles EPA and I drove it 8500 miles per year.   I think 150 is a sweet spot for my usage.

We cross-country skied around the neighborhood instead of driving to the mountains. The roads weren’t bad (we have snow tires on our VW Sportwagen) so in the afternoon we went to a local brewery and had a pint outside.

It is important to know that Mercedes just barely hit their EU CO2 target in 2020 and EVs and PHEVs counted twice for 2020. Starting in 2021 the “super credits” go away and an EV just counts as a normal vehicle in the fleet average.

Mercedes sold 14,645 EQCs in the Europe for 2020.

A couple problems with looking a density.

I had an 82 mile EV and charged 95% at work because it was free.   How does that factor into this “study”.

My weirdest flight ended on a bus. On my flight from Osaka to Chicago the interior lights, entertainment, and reading lights failed about an hour into the flight so the cabin was dark most of the flight. The pilot assured us no important circuits had failed.

The same thing happens in other forms of racing.   MotoGP  is currently signing contracts with manufacturers for the 2022 - 2026 seasons.   The technical rules are also locked for that 5 year period.

If the federal government wants to encourage the sale of EVs this should be a point of sale rebate NOT a tax credit that the median income household can’t even claim.

I’m aware. However, cheap, reliable, and not boring generally don’t really go together - pick 2.

My 2004 Chevy Astro has been reliable. It has had issues but those have been chassis related from sitting around (I bought it from an estate)

The good thing about modern engines is that they rarely need repairs.

Yes, the Trump tax bill capped state and local tax deductions at $10,000. My wife and I pay about $25,000 in state taxes so paying federal taxes on an extra $15,000 more than offset the small reduction in tax rates when combined with other changes to itemizing.

I was in the group that got a tax increase due to reduced SALT deductions (state and local taxes)

I work for an automaker. The same thing happened to us. Steel prices went up 25% so we had to shift production of vehicles and parts outside of the US to try to cut costs. Even then it hurt our margins and cost me personally $3,000 in a bonus.

The Pacifica would have been just as successful as a Dodge Caravan.

The devil is in the details. Tesla is very aggressive with their battery usage. They allow their cars to use 97-98% of battery capacity. Time will tell if that strategy works for Tesla. Most Teslas are less than 3 years old and not even half way through the battery warranty.
