No, China doesn’t need us more than we need them. Yes, we have a trade deficit with China but the supply chains for every level of US business depends on Chinese suppliers. China is also the largest buyer of US debt and their debt purchases continue to allow the USA to spend like we do while keeping taxes low.

A week rental from AVIS is $240. Rent enough to get to the top tier status and you can take pretty much anything on the lot. Renting is 1/2 the price of these subscriptions.

“The hub motor has a nominal power of 8 kW and 14.5 kWh peak, while torque is nominally 80 ft-lbs with 200 available at peak.”

Yes, this is really weird.   The NHSTA calls the Model Y a car for corporate fuel economy standards but for this crash test they are calling it a SUV.

Sorry but no - I don’t need to be patient on the vaccine.

I’m interested in something similar but it isn’t going to happen. I decided a 10 foot cutaway does the same thing as a highroof but better. More cubic feet and straight vertical walls.

GM ignition keys that can rotate and turn off the car if you hang a few pounds on them and hit a big bump.

The Volt was basically a PHEV Chevy Cruze. The 2019 Cruze started at $19,000 and topped out at about $28,000. The 2019 Volt started at $34,000 and topped out at about $40,000. So yes, it was priced very high for a compact car in the USA.

The RAV4 Prime is the Toyota PHEV to watch.

Lordstown Motors hasn’t raised nearly enough to tool up for production. That takes about $1 billion. It has always been a scam to offload Workhorse’s dead W15 truck project.   It is another Elio - just a different car and different old GM plant.

Tesla sold 500K cars in 2020 but has capacity for 1.1 million (90K Model S/X in Fremont + 500K Model 3 / Y in Fremont + 500K Model 3 / Y in China). Tesla’s 500K cars make up 0.7% of the 70 million total auto sales in 2020.

GM sells 10 EVs in China today but only 1 in the USA. So that is 11 of the 30 so far.

Nope. GM paid back their loans. The US government did lose $10.5 billion on the GM bailout but that was because they sold their GM stock early at a loss for political reasons.

A $10,000 Canadian car exists. The base model 2020 Chevy Spark LS is $9998. Same Spark we get in the USA but manual transmission, manual locks, crank windows, no A/C, generic molded grey plastic mirror and trim instead of body color. Even then it is likely loses money for GM since adding the automatic transmission

That’s the thing. When these articles talk about the “average” price of a new car they use the mean not the median price.    It is really hard to find data on the median price of a new car but a couple years ago it was in the high 20's - about $10K less than the mean price that was getting all the headlines.

Brazil is a difficult country to do business in unless a lot of things have changed in the last 7 years. The previous company I worked for bought a Brazilian company in 2011. It was a very steel heavy product but protectionist tariffs keep us from importing cheaper steel purchased on the global market. That was

US regulation only require front airbags for the two outboard front seats.   So no airbag but a seat belt is required.

Yes, there is little difference between credit scores of 740 or higher.   If you are well within that zone it likely doesn’t matter.   You are close to the cut-off from one category to the next then a couple of points can make a big difference.

This. Yes, by any objective measure Tesla stock is overvalued. However, many Tesla stock owners are buying into the mission of Tesla and a belief in Musk. That works for now. It is yet to be seen if it will work once every automaker is making multiple EVs, the EV future has arrived, and Tesla is still just small

It could happen but I doubt it - especially with California’s goal to go ZEV only by 2035. The stated requirement is for 22% of auto sales in CARB ZEV states to be ZEV by 2025. However, automakers have used ZEV credits so effectively that the current prediction is that only 8% of vehicles will need to be ZEV in 2025
