I don’t think this article is arguing one way or the other. The takeaway that I had is the entire discussion around this matter is seen almost exclusively through the male gaze, which shapes the discussion and decisions that follow.

I struggle to balance “he’s a shit person”, with “he’s an employee who has not been convicted of anything.” The second is objectively true, and the first is subjectively true. Why shouldn’t he be allowed to work while the wheels of allegation and investigation and hopefully justice continue to turn?
Cash bail is a fucked up bullshit system. Is he likely a danger to the community? Is he a flight risk? That’s ALL judges should be considering.
It sounds like they’re having cash flow problems, probably as a warning sign of the company being about to fold. Those freelancers better get the lawyers going as quick as possible, before the owners loot whatever they can from the company and declare bankruptcy.
But...but he was trying to prevent a mutiny!!!
Seriously. He met her when she was a child, and he was married to her mom. Fucking gross. Marrying your former step daughter is creepy enough, and basis for cancellation. Or at least it was for me, since I heard of this long before I read Dylan’s story.
The thing that I think it’s a little difficult for anyone to wrap their heads around who hasn’t dealt with abusers is that they groom their character witnesses just as thoroughly as they groom their victims. Scarlett has no doubt been subjected to just as much gaslighting as Soon-Yi, but it’s directed to a different…
Nah I’m speaking to how women’s reputations are often used against them regardless of what the reputation actually is. The material facts may point to her as a murderer, but emphasizing her reputation as a good girl means nothing because if she had the opposite reputation they’d be saying that’s the cause.
Yooo, what is your problem? We can comment on the tough situation that woman was in - a situation a LOT of women are in - even if she did do something horrible. Chill out, dude
I made no comment on whether she’s guilty or not.
Either you’re responding to the wrong person, or you are reading something that I did not say. I made no comment on whether she’s guilty or not, or my beliefs about what punishments she should get.
There was a girl on voice chat last night that was really, really high on some cocktail of prescription drugs and too many edibles. She spent the whole time on the floor, staring at & commenting on a cheeseburger wrapper partially sticking out of her trash can. She paid $40 bucks for an Uber to bring her a “singular…
That’s the thing— all of those men in that room echoed how incredulous Kevin was. The only one in that room who wasn’t made out to be “safe” was Lil Nas X. Those men were entirely safe in their ignorance in that room. Now, since it’s on television, yes we have every right to critique what they’re saying. Shit, even in…
They are expected to use evidence of her eating disorder, her time on the cheerleading squad and track team, and her participation in the National Honor Society—evidence Richardson’s defense has used to paint her as a rule-abiding overachiever
I never really “got” Car Talk as a kid, much to the surprise of the adults in my life. I was a little car nut from Massachusetts, after all. And my dad loved it. But this story closes a lot of loops for me.
Even if he’s innocent of the more egregious charges, he still left his wife for her adopted daughter. The things that are facts should be enough. Who would want to engage with someone like that?
At least Marianne’s thoughts are relatively harmless, in the scheme of things.
I used to be on this same shit with my gay friends. “You’re gay, who gives a fuck? I don’t”. But I got a wake up call some years back. My self and a bunch of friends went out, and at the end of the night one of my gay friends needed a ride home, so aight, cool. As we’re walking the many blocks to my car, these kids in…
I used to be the same, with the “You’re gay, who cares?” I thought this was the enlightened approach. But that shit is the same as people who say they don’t see color. I don’t care, because my privilege allows me to not care if Lil Nas X is gay. But that’s a part of his identity and if he wants/needs to express it,…
Damn. Good for Jen. I’m not mad about it.
