Exactly.  That ensured you couldn't even physically transfer your stuff from the first generation of Sony handheld to the second.  An extra helping of F U to the customer after already making sure you couldn't use your physical PSP games in the PSP's successor.  

Oh wait, the Vita uses a proprietary memory that works only with it? I thought it used Memory Stick... lord, that’s even worse.

I’ve owned likely 15 or more 3DSs and 2Ds, and likely the same in DS lites. When i picked up my 2DS for $69 with $4  memory card, i thought about also getting a vita. I took one look at the $75 memory card and laughed so hard i had to leave the store.


The problem with the Vita, aside from Sony forgetting it existed a week after it came out, like you mentionned, was due to a multiple of things. The whole Vita saga often sounds like a list of “thing to not do when launching a videogame console”.
