I don’t know about that. I’d think the level of confidence to required to self-wrench on a 10 year old BWM diesel is on par with the level of confidence you’d find in someone willing to do some research, watch a few YouTube videos and swap out some parts on an EV. As you said, it’s all about assuming safe practices.

I think we’re still at the point where autopilot is helping the stock price, not hurting it. There are still investors that will demand you shutup and take their money if you simply imply that AV tech is “getting close”. That combined with the charging network probably insulates the stock sufficiently.

I would not count out a person with access to capital and an abnormal tolerance for risk.

Maybe they were looking at least efficient EVs in the most expensive electricity areas, and comparing that to a Prius in a cheap gas state.

I’ve said this before here & I’ll say it again, using even ordinary cruise control in the snow is a potentially lethal mistake.

To be fair, people are also pretty bad at driving when the weather is not good.

Tesla isn't the company this article is about. They just used Teslas name so you'd know why the story is relevant.

Not how it works. The key is based on Bluetooth. As long as you have logged in to your Tesla account prior on the app, you only need Bluetooth functionality to open the car. Completely bogus. Tesla owner here.

Just use one of the key cards that comes with the car. It’s not difficult.

Every Tesla comes with a pair of key cards. They do not use the Internet and require no batteries. They unlock and start the car, just like every other key for every other car.

I think the petition and uproar about it is silly, but you’re totally right that this article is either incredibly poorly researched OR purposely misleading. Maybe both.

I forgot to mention another thing. There are a lot of CCS chargers with 2 CCS ports, but you can’t use them at the same time. They only have one on each side to enable more flexibility on reaching your car, but two cars can’t use them simultaneously. Some care needs to be used to account for this (not sure if the stat

Where Tesla only has 1266 charging ports in the US”. That’s incorrect. They have that many stations in the US, they have far more charging ports than that as each station averages around 10 stalls per station.

I mean, that isn’t how liability works. You don’t need to “consent” to Joe Shmuck going into a Dodge dealership and buying an 800 horsepower Demon, even if he has no idea how to drive the thing and presents an imminent danger to everyone in a 3 mile vicinity of his home. There’s really nothing about Tesla’s fake self

if someone just wants to drop $10,000 or $200 a month for unfinished software that doesn’t do everything it was hyped up about just yet

Eh, sounds like victim blaming a touch. Things we know:

Before I apply they’ll need to get a lot more specific about the amount of alcohol, Oreos, and Netflix I’ll be able to binge.

I have never once been to a gas station that has a chip reader at the pump in the states of PA, NJ, NY, MD, and all down the I-95 corridor on the east coast. I would actually find it novel and make a mental note, to be honest.

Yeah I was recently in Denmark and I (and I’m sure customers and clerks) got annoyed when I had to sign a receipt whereas most customers just went right through. We are so backward.

I went up to Canada this past summer from the US (first time in a long time). There, anytime I had my phone in hand or was fidgeting with my watch when it came time to pay, they’d all say “Tap to pay?”. It was great.
