@CobraJoe: .78 definitely isn't good, only average – comparable to an Accord or Camry. My main point though is that a slow figure eight time doesn't mean a car doesn't handle well. From the original article: "To be perfectly fair, we got better numbers with the manual equipped CR-Z 0.84 g (avg) MT Figure Eight 27.5…
I don't think MT's figure eight test is a good indicator of how well a vehicle handles since it has two straightaways. I think the only reason the CR-Z, Sonata and Yaris made the list is because they accelerate so slowly. Pulling .78 lateral g isn't great but is as good or better than most sedans.
@pauljones: Long answer: unless you live where the temperature rarely drops below 40 and it never snows. For me it's summer tires. Always.
Automatic transmission = automatic crack pipe, especially when paired with a turbo engine. The transmission is too slow to keep the turbo spooled up when you downshift so you have to deal with turbo lag on top of the slow shifting.
@slackinfux: That would be easier to swap but harder to find and more expensive.
I would swap a Honda K20 into my MX-5. The MZR isn't that great.
@Zer0OrDie: I like your plan. You shouldn't wait around for them to dick around though (because they undoubtedly will), you should get started.
@Roberto G.: That's true of all things Alfa
Crate & Barrel sells a knockoff of the Eames Lounge but I don't think it's very comfortable.
@Roberto G.: Subaru has been using boxer engines since 1966.
@ThatDamnDrunk: I think it's a hidden message about the likelihood of Toyota building a light, inexpensive, RWD sports car.
A 1000mm mirror lens is only about $120 - a lot cheaper than a normal 800mm tele and you wouldn't need quite so many of those $300+ focal length extenders.
The 86 looks more like BS to me.
@X-cchannel-M: I have seen the future, and it is bloated.
I drive my MX-5 daily and savor the times when I can take the long way home.
@marputer: A shirt made of fish? Gross! Plus, I don't even play tennis.
@gochomoe: Miata drivers are generally awesome and well-liked by everyone. They enjoy going around corners sideways and nailing a heel and toe double clutch downshift. They will not help you move.

We need more ring times, lots more. The more ring times we get the more we can yammer on about them in forums, thereby increasing ad revenue for the sites and boosting the economy. Plus, think of the job creation! We'll need an army of hotshoes, photogs and journos to keep the pundits informed as we compile the ring…
