Again, “remake” is a subtitle, not a descriptor. FFVIIR is effectively a sequel to FFVII. Imagine it as Sephiroth losing at the northern crater, and then using some kind of time shenanigans to go back and try to undo his loss. Only he’s insane, so the effectiveness will be questionable. Also Aerith kinda tags along.

They confirmed that the story goes up through the Forgotten Capital, yes. And Vincent, at least, will be a party guest like Red XII was in Remake. Cait Sith may be as well, along with Cid, if they keep to the timing of character introductions from the original.
