It definitely had critical flaws before the ending. For all the awesome character moments, the major plot beats were... kinda terrible? It systematically invalidated every choice you made up to that point, from the Rachnai queen in ME1, up to the Collector base and the human reaper at the end of 2.

“Body Language” seems to be a foreign concept. I know I didn’t just hallucinate Samus kneeling next to a destroyed EMMI, showing a moment of sadness for something that never deserved to be turned into a hunter/killer.
