Way to bury this story on the Sunday night of the Golden Globes, Jez. A+

I too emailed Gawker Media to press them for proper coverage of this. Their silence on the most uncomfortable story for years is alarming. What’s more, their collusion on the conspiratorial tamping-down, covering-up and white-washing of the story is nothing short of unethical.

Social justice sites are soooooooo scared of even touching this news with a ten-foot pole. Reality suddenly proved their narrative of “Feminist criticism of Islam is racist!” wrong and now they’re like a kid who shat himself. It’s pathetic, disgusting and cowardly. And I’m saying it as a liberal and progressive myself.

It’s not just that - they try to silence the Muslim women speaking up about this issue, too. I hate, hate, HATE that (white) feminists would rather sacrifice young girls and women, whether natives or immigrants, to the altar of political correctness lest all hate groups have something against the immigrants. Because

This is the first article jezebel has written since the attack, almost a week ago.

Yes, this. I just word vomited my feelings about this whole thing to my husband. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. The media has portrayed the whole refugee thing as babies drowning and families dying and to read how many thousand of young single men were allowed into these countries willy nilly just blew me

And so many responses here were apologists! They were split between saying it’s a just problem with all males, or Oktoberfest has issues too so it’s ok, or outright denial saying they were overblown lies by neo-nazis.

They’re called regressive liberals. They’re amongst the worst.

Um, when was the last time 500 women (at least) were assaulted en masse in one night, in one place, by an organised group (or groups) of men? The Tahrir Squre gang rapes and assaults are the only one I can think of. The Puerto Rican Day parade attacks come to mind as well but they pale in comparison to Tahrir and

Here, here. It is appalling. I feel completely fractured from feminists and liberals at this point. I’ve been annoyed at the hypocrisy for months and this is the tipping point for me.

and its not the right wing trying to silence women. Its the left wing, (its our own people) saying we need to shut up about the rape of almost 1000 women.

I emailed Jezebel this afternoon after seeing the BBC article, and after several days of feeling appalled that there hadn’t been a single follow up to what is a huge story for anyone following women’s issues. I’m assuming others here did as well and they finally realised that maybe having 4 articles in two days on

There were groups of women of ten friends who had gone to watch fire works together. It didn’t save them from attack.

CNN is a joke, but I had to really search to find this story to send a link to a friend. Didn’t find it on BBC either, and I found it on the bottom of the page on Al Jazeera.

There has not been a mass sex attacks like this, in the West, for 70 years. Yes, I think discussion in warranted.

I feel like I’ve gone insane. When we stop reporting objectively to push/suppress an agenda, we become just as bad as the right.

My response to my (all too many) “progressive” friends wringing their hands over the right-wing using this to be racist is, “Probably some people will do that, which is all the more reason for us to offer a constructive response that shows how to advocate for women.”

I’ve been steamed about this whole thing when I first started to see the stories emerge online. And the advice to the women...to keep at arms distance, don’t talk to strangers, walk in pairs, etc. What BS. Makes me sick.

“Allegedly concealing information” - translated , that means that initially, the police reported that the night had passed “peacefully “ & it took 4 to 5 days for the truth to be acknowledged publicly. The mass sexual assults was too widely reported on social media for it to continue to be denied. 100 men were

Religious and cultural background absolutelty matter because they are explantory factors for behavior. Period. You can isolate these things as causal factors without being a racist, Islamophobic asshole, but ignoring the fact that numerous women were sexually assaulted by a specific group of men because that fact
