Ever driven a DIY EV with a manual? It’s the most unsatisfying boring gear change you can imagine. There’s no real change in power or sound. The motor RPM just drops so you don’t explode your old brushed warp 9 motor.

No one is buying manuals. The people who are, are not looking to buy an EV.
Second vote. There’s no transmission. You don’t need any extra bits that do exactly nothing. And how is driving an EV boring? The acceleration is as addictive as any other drug.
Yeah I don’t agree with this view considering we have had the hottest year on record and the longer people don’t convert to an EV the more we push our planet to never reversing the effects from climate change.
The number one reason to not buy and EV right now is that it doesn’t fit what you need.
Like in many situations, it depends. My wife and I dipped our toes into the world of EV ownership back in Spring of 2016 after test driving our friend’s leased Fiat 500e. We looked into lease one for as low as $49/month, but the $1340/yr insurance was too much to swallow. Instead, we opted to buy a used…
We had a 2018 Bolt which GM offered us a buyback on and we took it. Basically was refunded for buying the car—they paid off my remaining loan, paid me back for what I already put into it AND gave me a little extra to cover interest! I put ~68,000 miles on that car and basically got my money back after driving it for 3…
I’m pretty sure the author of this post has zero idea what the actual car market is like right now (or anything else having to do with personal finance really) because this is one of the best times to buy new over used if you can get a new car without getting screwed by the dealer. It makes no sense to buy used to…
I do agree with this view to a point. Except buying a new EV in Colorado you can get up to $12,500 in rebates. Buying a used EV you don’t get that amount of rebates.
Yes though I think some horizontal energy probably makes for more interesting/diverse designs.
Ok, some clarification may be in order here regarding the context.
First of all, the only thing Biden can promise is a nomination. He can’t promise any votes from the Democratic caucus, and he can’t promise that no Democratic Senator won’t filibuster the nomination (and under existing rules any Democratic Senator can…
I don’t understand the trend to move the sensor from the back. VERY inconvenient.
I’ve been fine with the speed/accuracy of the sensor since day one, what’s maddening is that the input behavior is different when using the sensor to open the phone when it’s lock versus when it’s unlocked via smart lock.
I decided against upgrading just because I wanted to keep my phone with the rear sensor.
I doubt the headphone jack is ever going to come back, how else are they going to pimp out to you those almost $200 earbuds?
I will always give credit to Merv Griffin and the Wheel producers to keeping her on all of this time. They easily could have rotated the puzzle turner with a different, younger model, a la barker’s beauties, but I’m glad they’re not following the ageist trend.
1 week left on a summer internship?!? There is a month to go!! Come on Jalopnik, pay for a few more oil changes so Mack can stay!
I want wagons and sedans to switch. Almost everyone gets a wagon, but the occasional sedan comes to market and is heralded for being unique. That’s my vision for Hogan’s America.
Listen, I’m full of garbage takes and people liking me was never going to last long. But those advantages you mention are tiny! Yes they’re quieter and more aerodynamic, but by a margin that’s likely imperceptible to your wallet or ears with today’s sculpting and insulation.
