It sounds to me like she was thinking about how best for scientists to get their messages across to the general population, and how best to encourage the brightest minds (no matter who they are) to become scientists.

Since there’s no competence gap, nobody is sacrificing expertise for inclusiveness. And since all the scientists in the database are vetted, no is making identity politics seem more important than competence.

...they’ve been vetted to ensure they’re actually subject matter experts... Future additions will go through the same process.

You have it backwards. We already sacrificed expertise, only we did it for exclusiveness. Now’s our chance to stop sacrificing it.

He has emails outlining a targeted harassment? Do say more.

Sleeping at your desk during a code push is nothing to brag about. But if you haven’t seen the same proportion of women as men awake at their desk during a code push, you don’t work in the industry. I do.

Ratings search. Lord Almighty praise be for a ratings search. The Netflix (and every other service’s) algorithm just suggests films that are “like” the films you watch. But it doesn’t filter out:

So many commenters are assuming that those who disagree with them haven’t read the memo. WE GOT THE MEMO.

What were the quotas? 17% women and 2% blacks?

As a conservative, you should support the rights of private companies in “at will” employment states. Google can fire anyone it wants at any time for any reason, as long as that reason isn’t discriminatory.

How hard is it to understand that you’ll get fired if you create a hostile workplace?

See that’s an example of wtf is wrong: Who the fuck ever said anything needed to be exactly 50/50? The United Nations made a recommendation of gender parity by 2030. A lot of nations and private businesses have set targets like Canada’s 30 x 30, which has a goal of women in 30% of STEM jobs by 2030.

The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.

To all the fuckheads who are STILL trying to defend this rantifesto:

Alcohol is the perfect weapon. As such, it’s the weapon of choice for most rapists. At parties, they just follow around the drinkers. If the drinking slows down, they either ply them with more drinks or offer to escort the drunk person home.

I wish Amazon would take this stance. Trying to wade through the billions of paid reviews just to make a simple purchase... it’s gotten so that if I see a product with nothing but 5-star reviews I just assume it’s a shit product with no real users.

That’s so cool! Get him to sign a crossword puzzle for you!

I only recently learned that white supremacists were responsible for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people and is considered the deadliest incidence of domestic terrorism in US history. Why aren’t we constantly talking about how to stop white supremacist terror?

That was exhilarating! It made me cry. All those people falling in love with Karen and then singing along with Jewel... it truly was about the music. Thank you, I now have faith in humanity again.

Wowee. I can almost make a case for a poetic reading of the line, but no. He’s a jerk for ambushing her like that but can I just say that there are so many people like her in writing classes. Well, not like her because she’s being pretty cool about this whole thing. But people who use words without understanding what
