The cynic in me felt that Arrival was the "Love speech" from Interstellar in movie form, only chilled down to make it more acceptable for an audience that can't take strong emotions seriously anymore. The movie is of course better than that, and arguably better than Interstellar, but I think I respect Interstellar

He is doing a series of movies about periods in his own life through stories about people going through similar things, so I see it as basically all the same movie that is not yet finished. To me only Toni Erdmann has somewhat eclipsed Knight Of Cups this year and nothing else has been really close.

None that I can remember. Frozen had the Snowman —> First Time —> Let It Go that worked instantly for me, and nothing in Moana stuck like that.

The Handmaiden was deservedly on the first list, so Knight Of Cups (Malick is doing Malick, so it fits perfectly as part in greater picture). Also admired parts of Neon Demon ( a fevered Hollywood nightmare) and Hail Caesar (extremely clever at times so that it almost worked, but not quite).

I really HATED the goofiness. The original had actual characters and much stronger actors that could sell even the smaller parts. Here we get McKinnon making faces in a truly empty performance and Hemsworth being given a cringe inducing "stupid himbo" role that falls completely flat. I loved Spy and hoped this would

You are not necessarily wrong about who he'll deport (women with children are probably easier to find and catch for deportation), but I live pretty close to the Russian border and we have had a large influx of refugees from Syria and Afghanistan (mostly) in the last year or so, and they are almost exclusively male (I

Sitting safely here in Norway I watched the election returns until about 8AM local time (I had to sleep a couple of hours as I had to work 10:30AM), and I too was, and still is, mostly amused about it all. I am about 98% sure that Trump will not be Hitler or even close to it and fear that all the "Trump is the devil"

For this non-reader of the books Azkaban is the best by a vast distance. The only one that comes close to being art, and the best showcase for the kids…

Ghostbusters was decent, even quite a bit above average maybe, but I definitely felt the cast was a problem. I would keep McCarthy and maybe Jones (but give both more character) and toss the other two; I like Wiig in uncomfortable "awkward/depressing" funny movies, not in "funny" funny movies and McKinnons appeal is

I was tired and read the headline as Matt Damon, so now I am a bit disappointed…

I just ordered a Die Hard Box on Amazon after reading this piece, and I ordered the older dvd quadrilogy in stead of the new bluray box with all five movies because I do not want to own the fifth movie, it was so terrible.

The last few have left me cold (apart from Ant Man), but I kinda want to see this one…

Last sunday two movies premiered in my tiny northern Norwegian town; Masterminds had three paying customers (including me) and Inferno had one paying customer (including me). Inferno was (a little) better than what reviews had made me expect, but something like a C-grade sounds just about right.

I will now…

If I ever come to invent a time machine I would not travel back to kill Hitler (who knows what the consequences would be), I would quietly travel back in time to collect films now thought to be lost. Hell, maybe I already have?

I loved this movie in my early twenties and rewatched it frequently then (something I nerver do now). Tried to rewatch it 15 years later and found it unwatchable. Part of me see this as a good sign of finally growing up, part of me feel slightly sad about it…

I once bought a "best of" cd with Sergio Mendes and his Brazil incarnations an put it on before going to bed. I quickly recoiled in horror when I heard Fergie from Black Eyed Peas singing on Mas Que Nada and I almost pulled a muscle jumping across the bed to change the track. It was then I understood that I was not

Had the same problem with "Blue…"; it was great when it focused on character, and I think it did need sex scenes as they showed her character changing, but there were no reasons to make them so explicit other than either prurience or misguided edginess. "Lust, Caution" (Ang Lee's best movie in my opinion) and maybe

The action is not really the problem (it was pretty ok), it was the general staging of scenes ("mise-en-scene") that underwhelmed me. The action was decent in the other movie I watched too (the hooligan thing). She does have a background from Karate if I recall right, so maybe the action part is what interests her the

Based on the two Lexi Alexander movies I have seen she is not very good at staging scenes nor a good director of actors, so no. Her one saving grace is that she does not shy away from brutal violence, but this will probably not be allowed here.
