Yes, but it’s not an if-or-else event. This is in addition to what already would happen in nature. We’re simply adding on. So no matter what, the amount of methane will still be higher thanks to us. We don’t have control over natural causes, so that’s a moot point; but we do have control over ourselves.

I’ve said this before, but I would be more concerned if this kind of event is something that cannot occur in nature, but it can, and often does. Natural gas underground + Earthquake = gas leak, with or without human help.
