I think there was a bit in the Kroft Power Hour or some such Saturday morning kids show that had this for a theme…a mad scientist, an island, bad FX….

Pretty much. I should have gone when it was a trailer like the earlier commenter said. I'm not waiting three hours for brisket. You can drive to some amazing places and be back and done in that kind of time.
