Yeah, I think that's the best way of putting it. I keep seeing discourse about him somehow being both a master manipulator and a total control freak whilst also somehow being dumb as a mule. He can't be both.

I feel like the fact Archie's the literal worst at everything and just seems to stumble from one embarrassing event to another is the saving grace of his character. It would be ten times more annoying to me if he was intellectually sharp on top of all the other virtues they've given him. No one's that perfect.
