I'm referring to the way in which the data is written to and read from the discs. For CDs, the pits and lands written to the disc represent binary information (1s and 0s, on and off). On LaserDisc, it was the length of and distance between those pits that was measured and translated to composite video.

I am ashamed.

Would it be considered pedantic to point out that LaserDisc video was analog, not digital?
