@pete1061: Most fusion research is conducted in the hundreds of millions to billions though, and would be worth billions and billions IF successful. I would doubt that any company would be able to afford that kind of money and not use the patents.

@meatbag_pussrocket: A lot of engines that have an output shaft connected to a separate turbine. The engine has a compressor and a turbine, and then the exhaust is routed to yet another turbine that connects to an output shaft.
