Hopefully, someone will send a probe to follow up within our generation. I’d be sad if these images become the high water mark for our exploration of Saturn’s moons.

Wow, I thought this article was pretty straightforward, but I guess some *guys* out there have a hard time conceiving of being discriminated against for the set of genitals they were born with. So, apologies to the men who got Mika’s message but to the rest of you guys, let’s play with this analogy:

Curiosity is halfway done with her round of Martian golf: 9 of 18 holes!

Cool, thanks for the reply!

Our first overlord’s message to Earth: “Kittens give Sputnik gas”.

I would have loved this wind tunnel as a kid, when I made model kits. These engineers are making the dream real, rather than running around the living room with model in hand making “vrrm” noises, like I did.

I would recommend the post just for the DS9 reference!

I dunno about that... This line of Barbies might go flying off the shelves

Comparing our current candidates to a “Palpatine/Vader” ticket?

Earth is such a pretty planet... Thanks for this story!

I’m lucky enough to have a lab night-shift disturbed sleep schedule, so I’ll already be awake for closest approach! Advantage or sad coincidence? I’ll let you decide...

Oh, dear, I was 23 in 2006! I guess having another decade under the belt made me think I was a “kid” back then.

Wow, this is a bit of a heart-stopper to read about!

There’s probably some artistic license but I wonder how they figured out how far each of the stars were. Is 20000 light years close enough to figure this out by parallax?

What is the sand made of? Given that it’s a complex fluids lab, I suppose it’s not naturally occurring... though it’d be neat to see a beach full of this stuff!

With a quick formal order, people might be prodded to follow that advice.

I briefly saw on the news that Japan will now issue tsunami evacuation orders even if it can't predict what the height of the wave will be. Apparently, authorities couldn't accurately gauge the magnitude of the quake in the first few minutes and hesitated to issue a warning.

This was a fun article! I like pretty satellite pictures.
