Apologies for the delay between SketcHistory interviews; it took me that long to find my pen.
Tom Baker is the definitive Dr. Who. It’s official; please comport your attitudes and actions accordingly. 66, out.
Tom Baker is an absolute treasure. His affably crazy energy is just infectious.
Fucking Carcetti.
It was common sense. Obama only got the ACA passed because he had a tiny little window where the Dems had 60 votes in the Senate, and even then, he had to massage idiots like Manchin and Heitkamp to get it done, and he knew all this going in. Purity leftists like to sneer at his compromising, but he basically chose to…
Nah, The Shining is a good book in its own right, and King’s best 80s novel outside of The Stand.
Yeah, maybe the guy who made Goodfellas, The Age of Innocence, Silence, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Last Temptation of Christ, After Hours, Raging Bull, and Hugo needs work on his range.
I think one reason Fury Road is so different from Marvel or other franchise CGI movies is the lead time and the nature of preproduction processes. A lot of the franchise movies have their big action sequences pre-visualized and that previz becomes a fairly strict road map for the finished sequences
To add a little to Dowd’s point about how Fury Road offers a tiny nugget of hope, it also does a great job describing what feminism really looks like. Furiosa, the Vuvalini, and the rescued women all get their rightful praise for being powerful, interesting characters, but Max is a pretty great male ally. He…
Yeah, this is definitely my favourite film of the year (Farewell is close which is as beautiful and twee as this is sharp and satirical). It just does everything well.
You’re just jealous that you look nothing like the mailman.
Soderbergh has earned a lot of credit; even his subpar (for him) films are still worth watching.
Two fun facts:
A tear wouldn’t “bubble off” either, though. It’d just cling to the eye/face due to surface tension until it was wiped off.
And Chewbacca is just Sundance after he really let the mustache go.
Karl Urban is from New Zealand. Has a cute Kiwi accent! Also the reason he was on Xena so often, as that show filmed there. He was putting on a British accent for the ‘The Boys’, I thought. Maybe I was hearing it all wrong!
“2001” was my first art damage experience. My parents took me to see it at the drive in the year after it had been released. By the end of the film my Dad and siblings were sound asleep but I was transfixed with bulging eyes glued to the screen. I was a bit of a sci-fi kid having grown up on the Irwin Allen shows and…
Let me assure you, I have loved many movies about people who are doing much, much better financially than I am or ever will. That’s not really the problem I have with American Beauty. I think the movie itself is pretty disingenuous as a portrait or satire of the middle class, because it indulges the fantasy that…
The tearjerker opening of Guardians of the Galaxy would like a word about the whole “MCU hasn't done cancer” thing.
