As someone who got a token Far Side desk calendar every Christmas for several years, I’d really need some time to come up with an all-time favorite, but one that always stuck out to me:

My all-time favorite: two explorers find the journal of a colleague whose tattered remains are all around, with the last entry saying that tomorrow he’s going to test how gorillas react to a joy buzzer.

Jesus Christ, how many $billions$ has this dumb boring Caucasian 90s sitcom made and they are still neurotic for attention and praise because.. anniversary? I see these “Aw, Friends was so so amazing...!” and I wish people could get a grip.

Also, he doesn’t whip his dick out in front of his co-workers. He could, but he doesn’t.

In John Mulaney’s defense, as with his standup, he works his unit with an tight, practiced precision that’s mesmerizing. He could block the door, but doesn’t have to.

My favorite line from the linked piece on the Mulaney sitcom is:

“Mulaney is more Bob Newhart than Louis CK.”

In hindsight that’s a pretty huge compliment.

I actually think it’s a really solid fit. Mulaney’s always had an eye for playful, benign surrealism, and that would lend itself really well to a Sesame Street pastiche.

The real tragedy is that anyone knows who this guy is.
