Ah, true. I like MI:3 less than most of the others so I think I just forgot about him.  But yeah, Philip Seymour Hoffman was the best.  I did really enjoy Cavill's almost comedic heavy, though.

I don’t know, I think they’ve done that before, depending on whether you count Michelle Monaghan as “on the good guy’s side” in 3 and 6. If you do, than Fallout had 3 women supporting Hunt (Ferguson, Monaghan, and Kirby) though never all at the same time.

It seems like Rebecca Ferguson is also coming back for this, which seems to imply that Atwell will play the villain. Which I’m very here for. Henry Cavill was a series best baddie last time, so I’m hoping they can keep the streak going.

I couldn’t get the LPOTL series on Dean Corll out of my head in this episode. Especially the idea that there may have been far more victims than the 28 found and they were lost to time because of the incompetence and/or apathy of the police. They didn’t really touch on that in this episode but it wasn’t really

It’s still disappointing to me that Olympus has Fallen won the presidential Die-Hard duel of 2012. White House Down was such a well-made, stupidly entertaining action movie that was clearly having fun with the ridiculous nature of it’s premise. I can only wistfully imagine the wonderfully dumb Channing Tatum/Jamie

I really liked the movie but I can’t disagree with a lot of that. The only scene where the action makes any real impact beyond absurdity is the final setpiece because a good amount of it seems practical.

I just finished the season and I have to say this show has been a wonderfully pleasant surprise for me. This review didn’t portray it that well, but honestly I feel like it should get more credit. There are issues (it’s portrayal of women could use some work, and they’re attempting a story with The Deep that I don’t

Shoot ‘Em Up is a goddamn classic. The setpieces in that are honestly close to Wick-level and Giamatti is so fucking good.  It's attitude towards women isn't...amazing but that's honestly all that keeps it from my top action movie list.  Wonderfully batshit movie.

I can definitely understand dropping it during that extremely boring first season. I only got through it because I was told how good the later stuff would be. One character has a pack of mutant lions at his beck and call by the third season premiere so it was absolutely worth it.

Zoo has been cancelled for some time now, but for real, give the second two seasons a shot. The first season is a boring detective show, ubt in the second two they go full-tilt into a post apocalyptic adventure show.  It is wild and very worth watching for schlocky fun.

Its so nice when actors actually learn the instruments. I played cello in high school and I can’t imagine how jarring it would be to see actors awkwardly holding the bow wrong for the entire runtime.

For me, I thought season 1 was ok, but had a lot of issues.  Season 2 really tightened up and clicked.  I found it much funnier and the third season continued the trend.

I didn’t much care for Way of the Gun, although I think McQuarrie’s output has only improved over time. Jack Reacher is a pretty solid, if resolutely low-key, action movie and the last two Mission Impossibles, which he helmed, are great.

Hot Damn, Lexi Alexander would crush a Red Sonja movie. I still wish people had liked War Zone (great movie) and given her more work in the last decade.

The Mindhunter shoes seem insane to me. I guess it’s thematically appropriate, but what a weird promotion:

I’m saddened by the apparent snub of Hap & Leonard’s third (and unfortunately final) season. It was the show’s strongest and most ambitious season (even if it doesn’t entirely land the ending imo) and I’m gonna miss it’s mix of pulp, humor, and unflinching explorations of racism.

True but the world of John Wick 2, especially, is really interesting. I’m into that as much as I am the action honestly. The Raid 2 is similar. The first movies in both series are more pure action though, I agree.

Then the Raid is just not for you. No shame in it, if you’re not excited by the non-stop intricately-choreographed action than the movie has literally no other tricks. It's like an action movie glass cannon, it either works or it disintegrates.

Same deal with Justified. I’m currently re-watching it with my Mom after like 4 years, and it’s just cementing itself as a seminal show for me. Just started the Americans, also fantastic so far. Not to mention another patron saint show of the AVClub, Terriers, which I watched not too long ago and is pretty wonderful.
