So what was Nat right about?? Answer me Showtime!!

Mare of Eastown was a great performance but a shrug of a story, though maybe that’s just inherent to these Broadchurch kind of shows that always seem to end with a whimper.

5. Hacks

This show is SO good I can’t believe one of the best shows of the year was left to drop at a weird time like this

I can see that criticism, but to me it was just exploring ‘what if’, and taking the trauma to an extreme in order to create an interesting scenario and a compelling story. The overdone nature of the violence and horrible events make the ending of the book almost a relief, while still being deeply tragic, which I found

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” I think this season is solid, but not up to the standard of previous seasons. One issue is how awful Larry has become. He used to fight ridiculous societal norms, but now he’s just self centered. He’s become hard to root for.

That’s nice, but new season of Barry when?

The French still make them. I sort of feel like In the Cut killed them off in America (for real actors). Also the controversies around Adrian Lyne (his Lolita), James Toback, Luc Besson, have not helped

If anyone’s going to hit that particular refresh, let it be Ms. de Armas.
Affleck I can take or leave (other than Phantoms, of course)

I think half of the reason those were so ubiquitous was because they were a way to watch (very) softcore porn without actually watching porn. Oh, and not being actual porn you could rent them at Blockbuster.

The Shape of Water.

The Handmaiden was really great.

It’s a slight spoiler, but Side Effects is an especially good one since it bends genres rather deftly.

Gone Girl kinda?

Rava seems like a pretty good parent.

Come on. We gotta shout out Alan Ruck. He is constantly benched on the show, and he plays that need for recognition so beautifully. It feels like we all undervalue his work on the show, and this episode gives him a great ending to his season arc.

Kendall’s confession broke me. Afterwards when Shiv asked him where he wanted to wait and he said “Can I be with you guys?” Reader, I wept. My god. The way this show mines genuine humanity from such utterly irredeemable characters is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

This would indeed be wonderful to see, but I imagine the way this would actually play out would be a mostly silent dinner with small interjections of meaningless small talk.

Logan’s obviously a hypocrite, but what Logan hate’s isn’t so much the age difference, but the fact that Roman’s pursuits fall outside of Logan’s traditional masculine ideal. I doubt Logan really contemplates the full sub/dom component of Roman and Gerri’s relationship, but in a way that’s really Logan’s core

CANT WAIT. And cannot WAIT to see what she gives Kelly Bishop.
