@jd: I think what he actually said was "What is the use of a newborn child?". Not a direct quote, but I remember reading that in a book on math.

@jakemiles: caveat - that was well before iPhone 4 came out. The 3GS had only been out a year, and there was a year left of AppleCare on it.

FYI, the AppleCare on my iPhone 3GS transferred with the product - it's tied to the serial number, not the owner, and I sold it for a sweet price on ebay. I think AppleCare meant the new owner could drop the phone and get it replaced, so the phone was in effect worth the retail price.

This does not match up with my experience. I just received an email starting with the sentence, "I was impressed with your resume, so I decided to reach out to you."

A better solution for me would be a sliding friendship ranking control that controlled how much access that person has to me i.e. the ability to qualify the "friend" status. Facebook is a great rolodex, but yeah the number of friends I have on there makes the news feed nearly useless, and creates lots of spam.

@GitEmKelvarDave: According to the document linked in this article, your statement is incorrect:

@GitEmKelvarDave: My brother emailed me that (and I don't know his source) that the danger here is that all that energy is focused on your skin, rather than diffused throughout the body. If it were the latter, it would be safe. I'm opting out and getting groped.

i like emacs with longlines-mode.

Jeez, what next? Unmanned nuclear weapons?

When I met my girlfriend, who lives in Frankfurt (I live in New York and met her there), I talked to my boss, owned up to some responsibilities I hadn't been meeting, promised that I would meet them from now on, and broached the idea of working remotely from her apartment in Germany. He agreed to a two-week

Looks like Private Johnson has become mayor of that molehill over there.

@davecort: Since you asked, yes, I can name one person who had to seek medical attention for a protein deficiency. Actually two - me and a girl I met once who had the same problem for a different biochemical reason. Mine's lymphatic, hers was her kidneys.

You know, I looked at the Epic and the Evo side by side, and I understood that the Epic had a better screen - I could even see that it rendered a black and white photo as a neutral black and white while the Evo gave it a blue tint, and I also love a physical keyboard and couldn't imagine giving it up, but I kept

Oh my god. I'm terrified.

@Fossa: Actually when I saw this in my RSS feed I thought it was the Huffington Post reporting about Ukranian parents killing their child. I was halfway through the mourning process when I braved up and clicked through, to realize it was Gizmodo, which doesn't report sad things like murders, and then realized it was

@Deech: Oh yeah, mister smartypants? What if he actually meant that the winnowing machine pulls off the beans' shells before it pulls off their ground?

The skate park is the clear winner to me - really cool, beautiful, and conveys a feeling about the place. Second place is the blimp, just cause it looks cool.
