Despite the jokes, Letterman has always been genuinely concerned (or faked it really well) about her. He has often asked guests who have had some connection with her if they have talked to and/or helped her. They are usually (predictably) reluctant to address the subject but he pushes them as much as he can. He goes

Good to see. I went to see Philomena with some friends last week and Her was one of the previews. Afterwards, the women said it looked stupid while the men agreed they wanted to see it. So I'm glad that people who have actually seen it agree with us men in this cinematic battle of the sexes. It still could be stupid

I don't understand the appeal of comedians.

That's my vote, Reality Bites. I didn't like it but it was much more "90s" than a lot of these.

If "loved ones" is synonymous with family, one last time is usually very wise and appropriate.
