I deeply empathize with this decision. We’re at the end of the line for three-pedal cars. So my gut instinct is to try to “stick it out” for as long as possible (GROAN, sorry guys). We’re not going to see another generation of these cars.

Fair point -- I tend to think of “grown up” as refined, quiet and well-screwed-together.

Thanks for the review. I think about the competitive set a little differently. What would a late-30s/early-40s adult car enthusiast buy as his last ICE car? It’s a short list of refined, powerful, fun, manual-transmission cars. What else is there that has decent NVH, is fun to drive and has room for your kids?

Can we please not turn this last good column on Jalopnik into a video? It’s the only reason I come back at this point. And I'm not going to watch a video.

I think the otherwise inexplicable continued dominance of Hertz is down to their premium/Gold program. Once you’re in the system you can see your stall number on the board, grab a car and drive away with only a license check at the gate. I know others have similar programs, but when I rented a lot of cars for work I

Shoe in for the DT replacement role.

I don’t understand how this won’t violate the interstate commerce clause of the US constitution.

This (2.4l turbo-4, 270 hp, 3,300lbs) is worse than either my T5 Volvo XC90 (2.0L Turbo-4, 250hp, 4,400lbs) and my e90 328i (3.0L i6, 230hp). It’s also worse than my old 2013 Outback (2.5i).

I can’t understand how purchase and registration of a new vehicle in the UK doesn’t require insurance. Here in the US, I need insurance and identification to register a new vehicle.

I’m so happy two of my favorite obscure-nerd-knowledge writers have met and found common cause on the internet.

People congregating online over a shared interest, good. People being hooked to a virtual morphine drip that happens to sometimes serve you relevant content, bad.

The David Tracy “I put myself in a hole and now I have to dig through mountains of rust to get out” schtick is literally why I still read Jalopnik. Ignore the haters.

Do we think there was a big order from a fleet customer they couldn’t turn down?

These pieces are why I come back to this website. Please keep doing it. But maybe, just maybe, only do one project at a time...through to completion?

More of this! I know some folks are gonna complain that it’s not “car enough” for this site, but truly this kinda thing is interesting.

I know Toyota is the master of using their IP at multiple price levels and we have to accept it because “Toyota reliability...” But the font/visual design/user experience of their touch screens looks SO BAD. It’s not great in a Prius and simply inexcusable in a $100k luxobarge.

Congrats, Torch!

Selling our Outback to Carvana last year was BY FAR the easiest and fastest automotive transaction I’ve ever completed. It took 2 minutes to verify our identity, sign over the title and hand the driver the keys. I got a cashiers check on the spot. Another 5 minutes to load it on the truck. Add about 20 minutes of

Couldn’t RESIST could ya?

How swappable is that engine? Since the 3800 was supposedly indestructible, but the bodies they were shoved into were...not, there should be some junkyard gems, no?
